The set by John Etheridge and Christian Garrick was one of the best recieved of the whole Scarborough Jazz Festival. They got two standing ovations and were called back to the stage for a number of encores. In the final encore guitarist Etheridge and violinist Garrick are joined by Alan Barnes on sax. This is a remarkable festival moment and you can enjoy it in all its exuberance here.

The Arts Council England (Yorkshire) funded the commission of an original suite by Andy Panayi and Alan Barnes for the final session of Saturday night. This is impressionistic celebration of British jazz. Self-confident about the distinctiveness of the jazz of these isles, and incorporating themes from eighty-years of British style, portraits of notable artists, and recreations of the key sites of British jazz culture. The suite was written especially for the musicians in the seventeen-piece Big Band. Here’s your chance to listen to two of the numbers.
Track 1: Club 11
Track 2: Ronnie's Checkmate
“The result is a joyous, proud and heartfelt celebration of our common jazz heritage”.
